What is Tabex® and what is it used for?

Tabex® contains the active substance cytisine, which acts on the smoker's body similarly to nicotine. Taking Tabex leads to gradual smoking cessation without the discomfort and unpleasant sensations associated with quitting. It is intended for adults who are nicotine dependent and wish to quit smoking.

When should you not take Tabex®?

  • Allergy to cytisine or any other ingredient in Tabex
  • Recent myocardial infarction or stroke
  • Unstable angina, arrhythmia, severe hypertension or atherosclerosis
  • During pregnancy or breastfeeding

Warnings and precautions

Speak to your doctor before taking Tabex if you suffer from:
  • Heart disease or heart failure
  • High blood pressure
  • Vascular or cerebrovascular disease
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Diabetes or hyperthyroidism
  • Peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal reflux
  • Certain psychiatric conditions (e.g. schizophrenia)
Not recommended for children under 18 or adults over 65 without medical advice.

How to take Tabex®?

Tabex treatment follows a structured 25-day regimen. Smoking cessation is expected by Day 5.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Tabex may cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

  • Common (up to 1 in 10): Headache, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, upper abdominal pain
  • Uncommon (up to 1 in 100): Insomnia, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting
  • Rare or unknown: Palpitations, increased irritability, taste changes, chest pain, sweating, weight loss

Storage and shelf life

Store in the original package, away from moisture and at a temperature below 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the packaging.

What does Tabex® contain?

Each film-coated tablet contains 1.5 mg of cytisine.
Other ingredients include: calcium sulfate dihydrate, powdered cellulose, colloidal silica, magnesium stearate.
Coating: Opadry II brown, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxides (E172), lecithin, talc.
